Trailers for Sale Melbourne

Halco manufactures trailers for sale in Melbourne for tradespeople, farmers, businesses, vehicle owners and equipment operators who need a trailer suited to a specific transport task.

Our trailers are built at our Warragul workshop for customers across Melbourne, Gippsland and regional Victoria. Each enquiry starts with what you need to carry, its maximum expected weight, your towing vehicle and how the trailer will be loaded and used.

Whether you need a general-purpose box trailer, an enclosed body for tools, a hydraulic tipper for loose materials or a trailer configured for a vehicle or machine, Halco can discuss standard and custom options based on your requirements.

Custom Trailers

Custom trailers provide an option when standard trailer categories do not match the cargo, loading method or working requirements. Halco can discuss custom dimensions, access arrangements, storage, restraint points and specialised features as part of the complete trailer design. Provide the intended load, maximum weight, cargo dimensions, towing vehicle and required workflow when requesting a quotation.

Box Trailers

Box trailers suit general transport of garden materials, trade equipment, household loads and everyday cargo. Choose body dimensions, side height, axle arrangement and access based on what you carry most often.

Hydraulic Tipping Trailers

Hydraulic tipping trailers simplify unloading of loose materials such as soil, mulch or construction material. They're commonly used for landscaping, property maintenance, agricultural and construction work where manual unloading would be inefficient.

Enclosed Trailers

Enclosed trailers use a fixed roof and full-height body to reduce exposure to rain, dust, road spray and public visibility. They suit tools, stock, motorcycles, vehicles, event equipment and mobile business use. Internal access, storage and payload work together to determine suitability.

Motor Bike Trailers

Motorbike trailers are designed around the safe loading, restraint and transport of motorcycles. The trailer should suit the motorcycle’s length, width, weight and ground clearance. Ramp angle, wheel support, tie-down positions and the number of motorcycles being carried should be confirmed before the final specification is prepared.

Tandem Trailers

Tandem trailers use two axles for applications requiring a larger body or different load distribution than a single-axle design. Remember: the number of axles doesn't determine capacity. The complete design, chassis, suspension, brakes, tyres, coupling and approved specification, must suit your load.

Car Trailers

Car trailers are configured around the vehicle being transported. Provide the vehicle's weight, length, width, track width and ground clearance. The loading angle, door clearance and restraint arrangement must suit your specific vehicle.

Single Axle Trailers

Single-axle trailers use one axle and can suit compact general-transport, garden, trade and light-equipment applications. Their smaller format may make them practical where storage space and manoeuvrability are important. Suitability still depends on the trailer’s complete design, approved mass, body dimensions, suspension, tyres, coupling and intended load.

Lawn Mover Trailers

Lawn mower trailers are configured for transporting mowing equipment, gardening tools and property-maintenance supplies. A suitable design may include practical loading access, equipment restraint points and storage for frequently used tools. Provide the mower’s dimensions and weight, along with any additional equipment, so the deck, ramps and payload can be assessed correctly.

Flat Top Trailers

Flat-top trailers provide an open deck for machinery, pallets, building materials and loads requiring side or overhead access. Plan deck dimensions, ramps, restraint points and capacity around your cargo and loading equipment.

Stock Crate Trailers

Stock-crate trailers are designed for suitable livestock and agricultural transport applications. The right configuration depends on the animal type, number of animals, crate dimensions, ventilation, flooring, access and loading method. Provide the intended use and expected load so Halco can assess the body design, approved capacity and towing requirements.

Tiny Home Chassis

Tiny-home trailer chassis provide a purpose-planned foundation for suitable tiny-home projects. The trailer specification should be developed around the proposed structure, finished dimensions, estimated completed weight and expected weight distribution. Project plans and engineering information should be discussed early so the chassis, axle arrangement and approved mass can be assessed before construction begins.

Tradesman Top Trailers

Tradesman trailers support organised tool and equipment transport for builders, electricians, plumbers, landscapers and mobile service operators. Storage, access doors, toolboxes and internal layout are discussed according to your workflow and approved design.

Galvanised Trailers

Galvanised trailers use a protective zinc-coated finish to help improve corrosion resistance in demanding operating and storage conditions. They may suit agricultural, trade, coastal and outdoor applications where the trailer is regularly exposed to moisture, mud or changing weather. The available body style, dimensions, approved capacity and galvanised components should be confirmed in the written quotation.

Scissor lift Trailers

Scissor-lift trailers are designed for applications that require equipment or a working platform to be raised using a controlled lifting mechanism. The appropriate configuration depends on the intended equipment, operating height, load weight, platform dimensions and towing setup. Provide detailed application requirements so Halco can assess whether a scissor-lift trailer is suitable for the proposed work.

Plant Trailers

Plant trailers are designed around the dimensions, weight and loading requirements of machinery and worksite equipment. Accurate equipment specifications help determine the deck, ramps, restraint positions and approved trailer capacity

How to Choose the Right Trailer

A trailer should be selected around the load and towing setup, not simply its body dimensions.

Start With the Cargo

Record the maximum expected cargo weight and its overall length, width and height.

For a vehicle or machine, also provide ground clearance, track width, manufacturer specifications and your preferred loading method. Photographs help clarify unusual shapes or access restrictions.

Check Your Towing Vehicle

Confirm your towing vehicle’s rated towing capacity, towbar rating and coupling arrangement.

The fully loaded trailer must remain within the applicable limits of the trailer, towing vehicle, towbar and all related components.

Plan How the Trailer Will Be Loaded

Consider whether cargo will be loaded manually, driven onto the trailer, moved by forklift or tipped out hydraulically.

The loading method affects your need for ramps, tailgates, side access, an open deck or equipment-specific restraint points.

Confirm the Required Payload

A trailer’s external size doesn’t reveal how much cargo it can legally carry.

Payload = Aggregate Trailer Mass − tare mass

Permanent additions like toolboxes, ramps, cages, hydraulic equipment and internal storage increase tare mass and reduce remaining payload.

Identify Permanent Features Early

List required racks, shelves, cages, toolboxes, lighting and tie-down points during the quotation stage.

Including these features in the initial specification makes it easier to assess layout, weight distribution, payload and price before production begins.

Trailer Compliance and Registration

Trailers with an Aggregate Trailer Mass of 4.5 tonnes or less are considered low-ATM trailers. The Australian Government’s Vehicle Standards Bulletin 1—Revision 6 states that these trailers are expected to comply with the Australian Design Rules applicable to their category under the Road Vehicle Standards framework.

The requirements applying to an individual trailer depend on its approved mass, dimensions, braking system, coupling, safety chains, lighting, tyres, wheels, category and approval pathway.

Victorian registration requirements also vary according to the trailer and its ATM. For trailers up to 4,500 kg, the tare mass and ATM must be shown on the trailer identification plate or recorded on the Register of Approved Vehicles.

Check the current VicRoads trailer and caravan registration requirements for your individual circumstances. Halco will confirm the documentation supplied with your completed trailer.

FAQs

How much do trailers cost in Melbourne?

Trailer prices in Melbourne depend on the trailer category, dimensions, approved capacity, axle and braking configuration, accessories, finish and custom fabrication required. Provide the cargo type, maximum expected weight, towing vehicle and required features so Halco can prepare an accurate written quotation.

The right trailer depends on the cargo’s weight and dimensions, how it will be loaded, the protection it needs and the vehicle that will tow it. A box trailer may suit general transport, while flat-top, enclosed, hydraulic tipper, plant and car trailers support different loading and cargo requirements.

The suitable trailer must remain within the towing vehicle’s rated limits when fully loaded. Check the vehicle manufacturer’s towing capacity, towbar rating, maximum tow-ball load and any conditions in the owner’s manual. Also confirm the trailer’s ATM and the expected cargo weight before ordering.

ATM is the maximum permitted mass of a fully loaded trailer when it is not connected to the towing vehicle. Tare mass is the empty trailer weight.

Payload is calculated as: Payload = ATM − tare mass Permanent additions such as toolboxes, cages, ramps and hydraulic equipment increase tare mass and reduce the payload available for cargo.

Most new trailers intended for road use in Victoria need to follow the applicable registration process unless they meet every condition of a registration exemption.

A limited exemption applies to certain trailers that weigh less than 200 kg unladen, are under three metres long including the drawbar, are no wider than the towing vehicle and are not used for business or built to carry a boat. Registration procedures also differ according to the trailer’s ATM.

Halco manufactures its trailers at its workshop in Warragul, Victoria.

The final written quotation should confirm the materials, components, dimensions, approved mass and features included in the individual trailer.

Delivery arrangements to Melbourne and other Victorian locations can be discussed during quotation.

Availability, timing and cost depend on the trailer’s dimensions, the destination, site access and current transport arrangements. Collection from the Warragul workshop may also be available.

Halco can discuss custom dimensions, loading access, storage, restraint points and specialised features where they suit the intended cargo and approved design.

Provide the maximum load weight, cargo dimensions, towing-vehicle details and required workflow during the quotation stage.

Halco’s current product information states that its trailers include a 12-month structural warranty.

Request the complete written warranty terms before ordering so the covered components, exclusions, maintenance obligations, modification conditions and claims process are clear.

Provide the intended use, cargo dimensions, maximum expected load weight, towing vehicle and preferred loading method.

Also include required ramps, doors, cages, toolboxes, shelving or tie-down points. Photographs, machinery specifications or a simple layout sketch can help Halco assess specialised requirements.
